SOAR Experiences is excited to partner with the Kent Land Trust as well as the Marvelwood School to offer a unique nature experience at Skiff Mountain Preserve!

Join us for a guided birding hike at Skiff Mountain South Preserve, a Kent Land Trust property in Kent, Connecticut, where conservation, science, and curiosity come together. Along the trail, participants will have the unique opportunity to observe birds. Binoculars will be provided for birds encountered along the trail. Mist nets will also be set-up to capture birds and learn how bird banding is an important tool used in both scientific research and management and conservation projects - including saving this parcel from development!  Banding data helps scientists better understand many things including habitat use, dispersal and migration patterns, site fidelity, habitat requirements, life spans, populations, survival and productivity.

Marvelwood School Science Department Chair Laurie Doss will lead the experience, sharing her expertise and offering insight into the methods used by her students and bird banders to capture and process birds. Set against the rich habitats of this important parcel in the Macedonia Forest Block Important Bird Area,this hike invites participants to slow down, observe closely, and deepen their connection to the natural world. Whether you’re an experienced birder or simply curious, this program offers a rare behind-the-scenes look at field science in action.
